Whether you are trying to organize a tiny bathroom, or just looking to declutter and organize your bathroom in general, these tips and ideas for bathroom organization will help you get your bathroom in tip top shape!
Amid the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life, the bathroom often becomes a neglected space when it comes to organization. Yes, it get’s cleaned often (hopefully), but is doesn’t take much for it to get cluttered and unorganized; it seems to be one of those things that just creeps up on you and then BAM! – we realize it’s a cluttered mess. I’m not talking filth, I’m talking clutter due to the lack of storage, organization, too many subscription boxes, and having a “thing” for trying new beauty products. However, with the right approach and a few practical tools (bathroom organizers), you can turn your bathroom into a serene and clutter-free oasis.
Let’s go over some effective strategies for organizing bathroom clutter and introduce you to some innovative bathroom organizers that can make a significant difference. These bathroom organization tips will work well for both large and tiny bathrooms, bathrooms without a lot of counter or drawer space, or even those perfect, dreamy bathrooms that are occupied by beauty queens that just needs a little organization!
Bathroom Organization: Step 1 – Access the Situation!
Before diving into organizing, take a critical look at your bathroom space. Identify the areas that tend to accumulate clutter and assess your storage needs. This step is crucial for creating a tailored organization plan that suits your lifestyle. We need to focus on and determine the problem before we can fix it (organize and declutter it).
Decluttering Essentials – The First Step in Achieving a Well-Organized Bathroom
Start the process by decluttering your bathroom. I know – it sounds like the hard part, but I promise, it’s one of the most rewarding and most important steps of organizing your bathroom (or any space for that matter).
Dispose of expired products, empty containers, and items you no longer use ~ yes, I’m looking at all the subscription boxes stacked in the corner! (Wait, is that just me?) This step is essential to create a clean slate for your organizing efforts. There’s absolutely no use in keeping the old expired products (which can be bad for you!) – they will only add to the clutter and take up valuable space in your organizing efforts! Be like Elsa, and let it go!
Side note: I know you spent good money on those subscription boxes and don’t want to trash expensive products that are still well within their shelf life. Trash the ones that are no good, and then, take the good products you never used and will never use, and put them in a box and share them with your friends, your sister, your mom, or even donate them to a shelter or halfway house.
Don’t let unwanted items sit under the counter, create clutter, and then go to waste! Use it or let it go so that you can keep your bathroom clean and organized!
(Whew – I might have felt a little self-conviction there!)
Categorize, Prioritize, & Then Organize
Divide your bathroom essentials into categories such as toiletries, skincare, haircare, and cleaning supplies. Prioritize items based on frequency of use. This will help you allocate storage space more efficiently. Again, toss out anything that isn’t used, needed, or beyond it’s expiration date. (Oh, and if it’s covered in dust, that probably means you don’t use it, so let it go!)
Invest in Smart Storage Solutions to Declutter and Organize
Here’s another vital tip for organizing your bathroom: invest in bathroom storage solutions! Especially, if you have a tiny bathroom or limited counter and shelf space. There are variety of bathroom organizers designed to maximize your bathroom space, and most them are relatively cheap.
Consider installing shelves, cabinets, and drawer organizers to keep your belongings neatly separated and easily accessible, and clutter-free.
If you don’t have drawers, you can always get the stackable makeup organizers. This is one is my favorite because it is three separate stackable organizers and saves a lot of space due to stacking.
Utilize Vertical Space to Organize Your Bathroom
Make the most of vertical space by installing shelves or wall-mounted organizers to tackle your bathroom organization needs.. This not only adds storage but also enhances the visual appeal of your bathroom.
Cabinets specially designed to go over the toilet is another great way to add storage to your bathroom. They come in a variety of styles and colors; some are simply shelves, where as others have cabinets and shelves. Best part is that they practically take up no floor space and provide ample vertical space. They usually range from around $20-100 depending on the type you choose. If you are on a budget, don’t be afraid to get the cheaper ones that are simply metal shelves, but if you can splurge a few extra dollars for the cabinet style, they are well-worth it.
You can find tons of designs and styles (and for every budget) here on Amazon and Walmart. They can usually be found in-store, but the styles and colors are significantly limited compared to what you can find online.
Over-the-toilet storage cabinets and shelves are very ideal for renters, and also owners who don’t have a fortune to spend on new cabinetry.
Floating shelves, in particular, can provide a modern and stylish touch. If you are on a budget, don’t be afraid to use simple hanging shelves like these in the picture. The great thing about cabinets and shelves is that you can organize, save space, and still have a little room to add-in decor to give your bathroom (even a tiny bathroom) a sense of calmness and hominess.
Use Containers & Baskets for Visibility & Organization
Keeping with the shelving idea above, consider using matching containers, simple wire baskets, or even cute wicker baskets for items stored in cabinets or on shelves. Transparent containers allow you to see the contents at a glance, making it easier to find what you need without rummaging through various products. Baskets and containers also provide away to organize different categories of bathroom supplies, towels, makeup, hair products, and so on.
Pick a theme for your baskets (wire, wicker, etc.) and keep the theme consistent so that everything looks and feels more organized. If you don’t keep your towels, rags, and toilet paper in a cabinet or closet, this is a great way to store them. It creates a sleek and more organized look rather than simply stacking the towels and toilet paper sitting a shelf.
Declutter Bathroom Drawers with Drawer Organizers
This one is a big one for me both in the bathroom and the kitchen! Drawer dividers are invaluable for keeping small items like hair brushes, makeup, toothbrushes, and accessories neatly arranged. These dividers prevent clutter from accumulating in drawers and make it easy to find what you need.
Bathroom Organization Budget Tip: You can find bathroom drawer dividers at the dollar stores and box stores, but they are usually purchased individually. At even $2 a piece, they will add up quick. To save on bathroom drawer organizers, it’s best to buy them in bulk in a set of say 10, 15, or 25. It will be much cheaper this way, and if you have extras you can use them in the kitchen, desk drawers, or just about anywhere else that needs organizing! Here’s a great set of 25 bathroom drawer organizers on Amazon and Walmart.com for less than $20! You won’t find them that cheap buying them individually!
Over-the-Door Organizers for More Bathroom Organization
Another great way to organize your bathroom, especially a tiny bathroom, is to utilize unused space by hanging organizers over the bathroom door. These organizers are perfect for storing towels, cleaning supplies, or toiletries, freeing up valuable counter and cabinet space. They come in a variety of different styles, colors, and materials; from metal to soft viny, and even canvas. They are are a great way to add storage without taking up much space and simply hang over the door. Hang them on the back of the bathroom door, or if you have a small closet in your bathroom you can hang them on the inside of the closet door.
Create Zones to Keep Your Bathroom Organized
Establish dedicated zones for different categories of items. For example, designate a specific area for skincare products, another for haircare items, and so on. This makes it easy to maintain order and encourages everyone in the household to follow the organization system. Not to mention, it makes things easier to find! Plus, if everything has it’s own space (zone), then it has a home, and can be put back where it goes. It’s hard to put away things in their designated spot, if they don’t have a designated spot.
Organize Your Bathroom & Then Make it a Mission to KEEP it Organized
Once you’ve organized your bathroom, commit to regular maintenance. Periodically review and declutter your bathroom to ensure that the space remains organized and clutter-free.
As you can see, bathroom organization isn’t too hard, even in a tiny bathroom. Yes, it can be overwhelming to think about tackling, but once you have a gameplan and strategy, it’s as simple. Start by getting rid of all the stuff that you no longer need, creating extra space where you need it (shelves, baskets, etc), and then organizing everything into it’s respective place. Following these tips and incorporating innovative bathroom organizers, you can create a space that not only meets your storage needs, but also promotes a sense of calm and order in your daily routine. Say goodbye to bathroom clutter and hello to a beautifully organized oasis!
