Y’all I’m Back! Well, I never really left, but I have been inundated with so much going on that I am bursting at the seams to tell you about! So, back in March (when I suddenly, unexpectedly, and unintentionally quit posting) we stumbled across a great deal on a piece of property that I couldn’t pass up! We found an old, 10-acre horse form with an old house on it that we fell in love with. The house, we knew would be a demo project, and the land was so overgrown that we have found sheds and barns that wasn’t even picked up on the survey. Regardless, we found it, I immediately fell in love, and had to put an offer in.
We Bought Our Dream Property (with a lot of work to be done!)
Fast forward to the end of March, we closed on the property and started clearing and cleaning it up. When I say this property was overgrown, I mean we had to use loppers just to get to the house and be able to pull into the driveway. We have pulled up THOUSANDS of wild blueberries, muscadine vines, and Sweet Gum trees. (And before y’all come at me for clearing, it was much needed – it was overgrown and the blueberries and muscadines were so invasive that they were choking out oak trees!)
From what I understand, the previous owners had moved to Louisianna for work (and they are up in age) and now they have come back to Florida, but the 20-acres was too much for them to keep up with at their age, the house was beyond disrepair, and it was too overgrown, so they decided to sell 10 acres, which we bought. They are staying on the other 10 acres in an old carriage house nestled in the woods (so you can’t even tell they are there!)
Y’all, when I tell y’all it has been a lot of work, I mean it!! Man Thing and I both work full-time, and my career in the development industry has me going full throttle, but luckily it leaves me time to work out there in the evenings.
Not forward to July, we have cleared about 5 of the 10 acres, was very blessed to have a crew come in and demo the house, haul off the debris, and help clear a few acres. We started working on house plans and financing and…. wait for it…. wait for it. We started our house build at the beginning of October.
We Are Almost Done!
We are ALMOST done! While it’s only mid-January and we started in October, I expect that we will be finished in February. The goal is mid-February, but it may be the end of February depending on all of the final touches and such (and waiting on FDEP to finish up our septic inspection that was turned in a week ago but hasn’t been signed off on which is holding up power, which is holding up the HVAC which is holding up the flooring which is holding up the paint and then us moving in).
So, with all that said, I’ve been SUPER swamped, super excited, missing you guys like crazy, and I can’t wait to share before and after photos, and so much more with you guys, along with the end results!
I Have Lots of New Posts Coming!
I do have several posts lined up that I will be posting soon to include recipes, gardening, sneak peaks of the house, before and after’s of the property and soooooo much more!
